We are proud to say that all our optometrists are individually qualified and accredited to provide an end to end cataract service for the NHS or privately if you prefer.
From the early stage of cataract development, where the consideration is whether to refer for treatment, or to simply update spectacles to improve vision, right through to when a patient has had both cataracts removed and can be discharged from hospital, we can navigate the process for you.
When we all agree that the time has come to make a referral, our optometrists can carry out the initial assessment and refer to your choice of surgery provider. You can choose from traditional NHS trust provider hospital, a private but NHS funded provider hospital or to a fully private hospital provider of your choice.
We will carry-out all the relevant tests to ensure that the referral is appropriate and to the right provider for you, keeping your GP informed of progress as we go.
Once you have had the first eye treated, you will return to us for the post-op follow-up. This is so much more convenient for you than having to return to hospital. At the post-op check we will make sure that all has gone well and the eye is settled, before listing you with the hospital for the second eye surgery, or discharging you if only one eye needs treatment.
Once the second eye has been treated, we will see you again for post-op follow-up, at which point we will again check that the second eye has settled and if so, discharge you from hospital care. At this point we will establish your final spectacle prescription and help you decide the best option for whatever spectacles are needed for the long term.
